about

This is the culmination of everything I've been working for the past year that was 'good'. By far one of my most eclectic and confusing albums yet. Each song is so unique from one another they all stand on their own. It's like a smorgasbord of music, you get a little bit of everything. That's kind of where I got the idea of naming it 'Strata', because this album's got a variety of layers. Also because geology is cool sh*t. Idk maybe some of y'all will like that about it and I suppose it doesn't really matter these days because nobody listens to albums anymore hahhahahahahahahahahahahah...

Track Breakdown:

- 'Strata' was the final song I wrote for the album and I think it encapsulates what this album is about pretty well. It started out as a little orchestral piece I made in an afternoon and eventually turned into the crazy house thing it is now. I told Gourdy I wanted a percussion solo halfway through the song, so he went around his house and recorded any possible percussion instrument he could find. I tried to include almost everything he recorded.

- 'Confusion' is a song I wrote 5 years ago that appears on my first ever Bandcamp release 'Eclipse'. I was very proud of that song when I first wrote it but I knew it could be better. Took me several attempts but I was finally able to remake and expand on it in a way that I was satisfied. Now featuring a lot of the Arturia MicroFreak.

- 'Blank Cubicle', 'Macaroni Thing', and 'Coffee and Beer' are all remixes that I decided to slap on this album.

- 'Oddstinato' is an *odd* song primarily consisting of the same ostinato throughout its duration. I used the Korg Trition a lot in it.

- 'Popcorn (At the Movies)' is probably the best song on here for its simplicity and dreamy vibe. I had a blast working on it with KiggKai and if you're wondering what that vocal effect is; basically he was singing in a falsetto while I screwed around with the formant of his voice.

- 'Late Night Snack' is a sweet and short little song I wrote out of boredom during last year.

- 'I can't play the guitar so I used some preset instead' says it all in the title. Not much to say about this song other than its short and in a weird time signature.

- 'Loud Pack' is about drugs lol. It's basically a slower more rocklike take on psytrance.

- 'Volcano' is a pretty wild ride. It's kinda industrial and also rock. Had fun with the synth solo near the end. The recording throughout the song I took when visiting Lassen National Park. What you're hearing is a volcanic vent and mud pots. I probably got too close to it lol. Very dangerous.

- 'Lynnside' was a fun collaboration with hundredfive. Since I worked on a song with him for his album, seemed only fair he did the same for my album. This track has a trumpet solo because yes.

- 'When the Nights are Cold' might just be one of my favorite songs I've ever written. I find it difficult to write ambient music that I actually like, so this is that rare chance of being successful. I came up with the idea for this song while doing online schooling. I started setting up my Zoom mic in various locations around my house all late at night. After a couple months with a couple recordings made, I had a few hours of white noise that I then spliced together and built a song on top of. I'm very happy with how this one turned out.

Welp, thank you guys for reading and I hope you enjoy the album. I think because this album is so varied everyone who listens is bound to find something they like in here. If not, I am so sorry for wasting your time (not sorry). Not only is this my strangest album yet, IT'S EVEN GOT SOME LYRICS!!!
